SUSAN CASTO – PHYSICAL THERAPY
LOS ALTOS | SAN JOSE
ABOUT SUSAN
Susan has been practicing PT since 1982. She earned her BS in physical therapy from California State University Fresno (being the only local person admitted to the program that year), and later earned her Doctor of physical therapy from the University of South Alabama in 2010.
She certified with the Institute of Physical Art in 2005, as a Functional Manual Therapist, she has studied under Diane Lee in a year long course based on the Integrated Systems Model. She is currently continuing coursework with the Barral Institute, an osteopathic approach for the visceral and neural systems. Other specific trends of study include the Stecco Method of fascial manipulation, fascial decompression using cupping, Peter Edgelow’s thoracic outlet program, Rocabado’s approach to TMD treatment, myofascial release, cranio-sacral therapy, and many others.
Her manual therapy approach, therefore, comes from a melding of many techniques and decades of experience. Susan most enjoys a focus of balancing the soft tissues of the body, allowing the joints to then perform to their capacity. Postural alignment is addressed and home exercise rounds out the approach and will be prescribed for your individual needs and formatted to fit your lifestyle.
In her spare time, Susan enjoys gardening, beach-gazing, and chasing after her beloved grandchildren. Her desire is to return to travel for sun-loving fun, to be awed by nature, and to admire the built environments of the ages.

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY
Susan is an exceptional physical therapist that has been nothing short of a godsend. She’s helped me stay healthy through my weekend warrior sports exploits and is a master at the craft of physical therapy. She’s successfully helped me heal through numerous injuries and annoying niggles and I’ve sent other family members her way for the same benefit. I highly recommend her for anyone who might be considering a physical therapist!
Susan has helped me with various problems over the years. TMJ pain after a dental procedure, neck and shoulder stiffness/pain, and rehab after my herniated disc and low back surgery. She is kind and gentle, and takes the time needed to listen and problem solve. She didn’t overwhelm me with exercises, but I still practice my “core” strengthening routine she set up for me, long after my last visit with her. I would recommend her for your small and large physical troubles.
In one visit, Susan helped me address posture issues that have contributed to years of chronic back pain. She provided feedback and made micro adjustments to my existing workout routine to support my newly improved posture!
Susan runs a pleasant but tight ship. She has used many varied techniques from her vast experience to steadily move my issue away from dysfunction. Where many thereapists would stop at merely attaining functional status, Susan has moved me beyond and is close to restoring my pre-injury status. I cannot recommend her work more highly.
I had the opportunity to work with Susan Casto while training for my first Ironman. Susan took extra time with me and was the one who made my race possible, allowing me to continue to train through an IT band injury to successfully complete my race, faster than I thought possible!
I’ve been working with Susan Casto to resolve a difficult to treat nerve entrapment issue. Susan thinks very systematically about the body, has provided me with extremely thorough assessments and uses a wealth of hands-on techniques which have enabled me to make sinificant progress. She’s also excellent at educating me about complex bio-mechanical issues and providing me with exercises to accelerate my healing. To top it off, she’s warm, high integrity, and fun to work with. I consider Susan to be an invaluable part of my rehab – thank you!
Getting old is not for the faint of heart. I have been seeing Susan off and on for a few years, for a knee replacement that did not go nearly as well as everyone had hoped, to say the least. And now for maintenance for a very old car accident injury involving my head and neck, and also for low back and sacroiliac degeneration. I like to stay too active for my own good. Susan helps me to keep going. So I must abide by my physiatrist’s words…”Just do what you can, and don’t P…O.. your physical therapist”!
Susan Casto ahs been my go-to physical therapist for over 20 years. She successfully alleviated pain and weakness in more areas of my musculoskeletal system than I can count. Not only does she have healing hands, but she listens and asks questions to get to the root of the problem. I have complete confidence in her ability, and I trust no one like I trust Susan.
The treatment that I have gotten from Susan through the years has been wonderful. She is a gifted therapist who is able to both intuit the treatment that your body needs and listen to what you as the patient has to say. In addition she is kind, caring, and compassionate to those of us that suffer from chronic pain. Susan is a treasure!
